Peterborough is an eclectic mix of ancient and modern - its stunning 12th Century Cathedral adds weight and a sense of history to the evergrowing new town that is springing up in all directions around the city centre - the latest addition being the largest housing development in Europe - Hampton.

Huge investment from the Development Corporation, as was , throughout the 80's and 90's has been a magnet to companies large and small - including some major head office functions attracted away from London by affordable rents and workforce. This, combined with the Citys' central location, sitting as it does on the major roadways linking all parts of the UK, makes it an attractive choice for for ambitious and forward thinking companies. London is just 50 minutes away by train into Kings Cross. Recently big names such as IKEA, Debenhams and Tesco have chosen Peterborough as the site for major distribution centres making a valuable contribution to the local economy.

Location:

Drive ten minutes in any direction from the City Centre and you will be in the countryside - the flat Fenlands to the east with huge skies and beyond the Norfolk Coast with its sandy beaches and stunning wildlfe. To the west the rolling hills of Northamptonshire. To the north the historic town of Stamford with Burghley House, and just beyond Rutland Water with its sailing, cycling and nature trails. Go South and within 30 minutes Grafham Water will offer the same opportunity for a great day out.

To the west of the City Centre lies Ferry Meadows with its huge lake which is home to a wide variety of birdlife, and a boating lake with clubs for sailing and windsurfing alike. Surrounded by meadows and cycle paths it is a great place for a family day out, having a picnic, flying a kite, walking the dog or just sitting watching the world go by. It also hosts one of the best Caravan Club sites in the UK!

Golf: Peterborough is home to two fabulous public golf courses, Orton Meadows with its water to challenge the careless (or unlucky) and Thorpe Wood reputed to be amongst the top UK public courses to challenge the long hitters. There are a number of private courses - Milton, Elton Furze, Stilton amongst them, which offer golfers a variety of challenges.

Ice Hockey: The ice rink on Saville Road plays host to the Peterborough Phantoms who host league matches. The rink is open to the public if you fancy being the next Torville or Dean.

There are a host of other opportunities for the sports enthusiast and spectator including speedway, greyhound racing, atheletics clubs, junior football clubs, all the big name gyms, tennis clubs, ten pin bowling and more - plenty to choose from.

For those who want a "city fix" London with its shops, theatres and restaurants, bright lights and buzz is just 50 minutes away - close enough to indulge yourself with pre-theatre drinks, supper and a midweek show - and still catch the last train home!

Housing

There is a wide choice of housing in and around Peterborough from the ultra modern high tech to the quaint stone and thatched cottage. Although prices have risen significantly in recent years housing in the regions still offers value for money compared to other regions. Desirable villages such as Ufford, Barnack, Bainton, and Helpston sit amongst farmland between Peterborough and Stamford and offer a real and aspirational life style for those wanting the best of both city and country.

Education

Peterborough offers a good range of secondary schools which cater for all needs and expectation - Community colleges, academy schools, Independents and Church funded establishments, many of whom are, of have recently been refurbished and subject to significant inward investment. League tables for all are readily available. The independent schools of Oundle, Stamford and Uppingham are not far away for those who choose that route. Although a City Peterborough has no University, but the Regional College has established links with out of area university bodies to be able to offer degrees, as well as a wide range of further and adult education courses.

Unemployment rates in Peterborough are very low, with a vibrant local economy presenting a wide range of job opportunities from most disciplines including Sales & Marketing, IT, HR, Engineering, Media and New Media, Food Manufacturing, Supply Chain as well as large call centres service Financial Sevices, Travel and Insurance, hospitality, catering, and retail.
